Sarah Kam-Gordon, Fordham University

Abstract

This thesis explores the legendary account of the mystic marriage of St Katherine in medieval England. It provides a commentary and translation for a previously untranslated Anglo-Norman text in which the mystic marriage first appears. The introduction provides a brief summary of the legend, an exploration of artistic representations of the mystic marriage in medieval Europe, and a history of the cult of St Katherine in England in order to contextualize the translated text.
