Abstract
This essay by Guadalupe Valdés reflects on the influence of Ofelia García on her own experiences and as well as on the field of bilingual education. As a reader, educator, and researcher concerning emergent bilingual children, the author shares many of the same challenges. She expresses her deep felt sense of gratitude for what Ofelia García has done for the profession, for teachers, and for children.
